Case Study - Avon

Avon, 'The Company for Women', is a multi-national global beauty company with over $8 billion in annual revenue. With almost 5 million independent representatives and tens of millions of customers, Avon markets its products in more than 100 countries, being the world's largest direct seller of beauty products, fashion jewellery and apparel. Therefore, it is not by chance that the company has been voted by Business Week as one of the 'Top 100 Global Brands' and has been included on Fortune's 'Most Admired Companies' list for over a decade.
Following the demand from Avon's North American corporate headquarters for all their global offices to comply with SOX requirements, Avon's internal auditing control set out to implement some 50 to 60 rules for compliancy. The national office in Greece sought a product to assist them in the task. They have an iSeries 520 machine serving some 70 users running billing and CRM native systems and also network ODBC inquiries using Excel, FTP transfers and remote command use.
Mr. Fedon Antonakopoulos, IT Security Administrator for Avon Greece consulted with IBM. He required a solution to audit network access to see who was accessing what, with a view to limiting access to only those who should have it. IBM introduced him to the Enforcive/Global Security product. They handled the installation and provided the support for the implementation. "The implementation was very easy and comfortable" says Fedon, who explains that within a couple of weeks he had set up all the required definitions and had already switched the product over to run on full protection. "We have experienced no problems" he added.
Any questions Fedon has had have been answered quickly by the product's on-line help or from IBM Greece. Since the purchase in 2005, Avon Greece has upgraded to the new Enforcive/Enterprise Security for iSeries and Linux
The IT department at Avon uses Enforcive/Enterprise Security for access control, application auditing and iSeries user/password management. They make good use of the iSeries internal system reports and the alert feature as well. The system is setup and stable and the administrators normally spend no more than an hour a week making policy adjustments and checking activity. Avon's IT manager is unequivocal when he says that Enforcive/Enterprise Security covers his company's very specific security needs, 100 per cent. He recommends the product and sums up: "A very good product and well worth the money".
